Healthier Futures for Families in Leith

We offer a variety of holistic services to help support the parents and young families of Leith. Our programme of activities are created in partnership with our families and adapts to the changing needs of the community.

Our groups are family focused but also give parents an opportunity to meet with other parents while their precious little ones are looked after in our on site creche. 

Each programme is released for a new school term, to be added to a waiting list or mailing list for future programmes please get in touch.

The Raising Children with Confidence course aims to give all parents and carers the latest findings from evidence and research to explain what influences the development of emotional wellbeing and why what you do makes such a difference.

Over the six two-hour sessions we will cover the following topics:

  • Promoting Wellbeing: Supporting children’s mental health and wellbeing
  • The Developing Brain: How experience shapes the brain
  • Why Love Matters: Creating positive relationships and attachments
  • Staying Connected: Listening to understand and developing empathy
  • Building Resilience: Coping with life’s ups and downs
  • Looking After Ourselves: The importance of parental wellbeing


Booking is essential

Our active mums group runs on Monday afternoons in partnership with Edinburgh Leisure. The group runs for a block of seven weeks and you will take part in a fitness class which is suitable for all fitness levels. Dr Bells provide crèche spaces for your child (over 6 months) whilst you take part in the group. You can be added to a Whatsapp group with the instructors and other Mums. This is just a quick way to contact everyone and share video content and any relevant updates.

Our Bookbug sessions meets every Tuesday at 10am at our centre. The group runs for roughly 45 minutes and is suitable for children ages 0-5 years along with their parent/carers.

Join us for our nurturing story, song and rhyme time in both English and Punjabi. Enjoy well loved songs, whilst enhancing the bond between you and your little ones in a fun way. 

Sharing stories, songs and rhymes with babies and young children has many benefits including supporting children’s language, learning and social skills. It’s fun, free and simple, and the benefits will last their lifetime.

No booking necessary, please just come along

We run our outdoor sessions from St Marks Community Woodland on Tuesday’s between 1-2pm. These sessions are facilitated by our fantastic Childcare Practitioners. 

We aim to support parents and children in natural environments, free from false stimulants. We support families to try new activities as well as build confidence in nature play.

 We offer a variety of play experiences such as: imaginative play through our mud kitchen, bug hunts, arts and crafts with natural resources, hammocks, den building and the opportunity to use real tools (with supervision!), along with many more exciting activities. 

Not suitable for babies under 6 months.

Our Buggy walk meets every Tuesday afternoon at Leith Links, where we walk around the local paths. The walk is roughly one hour and is suitable for all fitness levels.

The walk is suitable for children under one years old.

It is an opportunity to meet other new parents, the Dr Bells team and to take part in physical activity.

We have a WhatsApp group for all the parents which allows us to keep in touch and provide any relevant updates.

If you are interested in joining, please get in touch. You do not need to register but we do need your information to add you to the WhasApp group.

Our cooking group runs in 5 week blocks and takes place on Wednesday mornings in our centre. It is suitable for all levels of cooking skills.

You will be provided with all the ingredients needed to cook along with the group and recipes to take home as well as gaining top tips and advice.

Dr Bell’s provide crèche spaces for your child (over 6 months) whilst you take part in the group.

Our Baby Massage sessions run for a block of five weeks and costs £25 for the block.

It is suitable for babies up to crawling stage. The group is on for one hour and we provide everything you need, including mats, towels & oil however, you are welcome to bring your own. We suggest that parent wears something comfortable.

Baby Massage is beneficial for sleep, connection & attachment, digestion and growing & teething pain.

Join us every Wednesday between 11.30am-12.30pm for oue Community Lunch.

Enjoy some home cooked Punjabi cuisine created by our families during their cooking group.

Our Community Lunch is a great opportunity to meet other families and learn more about what is on offer at Dr Bell’s. 

Our community lunch is open to everyone, booking is not necessary.

At our mindfulness dips we aim to support parents/carers with mental health and wellbeing through cold water swimming/dip (no previous swimming experience needed).

This group allows parents to have time to themselves and gain support from their peers as well as the staff team that run the group. Informal chats take place around a fire with a cuppa.

Equipment is provided, you would only need to bring a swimming costume.

This group takes place at Wardie Bay, Newhaven.

We can provide crèche spaces if childcare is needed (from 6months old), along with offering travel to and from our centre.

The Family drop in takes place weekly in our centre and is for all parents & carers in Leith with a child under 5.

The family drop in is an informal group and it gives families and opportunity to meet over a cuppa and a chat.

It is a chance to meet other families in a safe space for support and advice.

Groups and organisations may be invited along to discuss their services and support offered.

1:1 support can be offered if a parent needs it during this time or you can arrange another suitable time to pop in to speak with someone in the team.

There will also be fun activities to take part in.

Our Messy play sessions take place at our centre and are run by our Childcare Practitioners who aim to offer support and guidance with fun messy play/sensory activities.

This group is for little ones and their adults to attend together and we encourage parent’s involvement in children’s play. 

This group is not suitable for babies under 6 months.

Together we will explore a variety of some simple, fun and low cost activities with demonstrations on how they can be adapted for at home.

Due to funding we are only able to offer spaces to families who live in the Leith Area, following the Neighbourhood Partnership and Community Council Boundary Map (EH6/7 postcode).
